Tula, Landhuis (Manor) Knip

A painting depicting Tula, the leader of a group of slaves from Landhuis Knip who, on 17 August 1795, refused to go to work on this plantation. The revolting slaves went to Santa Cruz and were met by a police force who was called to help. The growing number of slaves, by then over 1000, were overpowered and the leaders sentenced to death. Tula is now a national hero.
